The Trafficking Prevention Project has both a nation-wide training program coordinated from Kyiv and training programs at the seven Women for Women Centers (WfW). These trainings are divided into two programs - the Job Skills Training Program and the Crisis Prevention Program. The curriculum for these trainings is based on an interactive, participatory methodology, which is ground-breaking in Ukraine as a tool for educating and empowering individuals, particularly women. The trainings described below make up the core trainings offered in these two programs. The individual Women for Women Centers have also developed other trainings based on identified needs in their communities.
Job Skills Training Program Trainings:
"Employment" (14 hours or two-days)
The aim of this training is to provide women with the fundamentals of employment and basic practical life skills. The training includes a section on self-evaluation and identification of personal/professional goals, information about employment organizations and job search strategies, resume writing skills, the main points discussed at a job interview and tips for a successful interview, hidden obstacles in the employment process, a section on prevention of trafficking in women, communication skills, and time management. Unemployed women up to age 40 and undergraduate students can participate in this training. Seminar trainings have also been conducted for employees of state employment centers so that they can improve the quality of the services they provide for the unemployed, particularly women.
"Women's Entrepreneurship" (16 hours)
The aim of this training is to help women see entrepreneurship as a strategy for improving their economic situation. This training provides basic knowledge about entrepreneurship and the skills necessary to implement a business idea. The training includes sections on self-evaluation, organization and planning of entrepreneurship activity, legal aspects of a business (such as registration and tax payments), and principles of marketing, personnel management, financial management, business planning and strategic planning. Also incorporated into the training is information on the problem of human trafficking and prevention strategies.
Crisis Prevention Program Trainings:
"Prevention of Trafficking in Women" (8 hours)
The aim of this training is to provide information on the problem of trafficking in women, on dangers of illegal employment abroad and to acquaint women with their human rights. The training includes sections on self-evaluation, women's human rights, the push and pull factors influencing women's decisions to go abroad, legal opportunities of employment in other countries, myths and realities about working and living abroad, information on foreign organizations assisting in critical cases and international and Ukrainian laws on trafficking in people. Young women up to 40 or those who deal with "the at-risk group" (such as teachers, social workers, etc) can participate in the training.
"Prevention of Violence Against Women" (8 hours)
The aim of the training is to introduce the problem of violence against women to the participants and to develop skills to assist victims of violence. The training includes sections on self-esteem; determination of violence (including domestic); why do women stand violence; what can be done to end violence; as well as the exercises “Experience of violence”, “Myths and facts about violence” and the overveiw of the national and international legislation on violence prevention.
Also available are the following trainings: "Successful Communication", "Gender Equality", "Women's Human Rights", and "Women's Leadership".
Nation-wide Training Program. For the nation-wide training program, Winrock has a cadre of 20 trainers who are located throughout Ukraine and are skilled in conducting both the JSTP and CPP core trainings (as well as other trainings). Through the Kyiv-based nation-wide training program, trainings are conducted in regions throughout Ukraine for women who are not able to access the services of the WfW Centers. Individuals and/or organizations can request a training, although there is a waiting list.
"Women for Women" Centers
